About Tameside and Glossop NHS
Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust is an integrated foundation Trust that operates from Tameside General Hospital situated in Ashton-under-Lyne. It serves the surrounding area of Tameside in Greater Manchester, and the town of Glossop and other smaller towns and villages in the north western part of the High Peak district of Derbyshire. Employing approximately 3,800 staff, the Trust provides a range of services both within the hospital and in the local community.
Like most NHS customers that RSM support, the trust wanted a comprehensive service provider to empty, clean and then test their current system; but to then also (if needed) be able to compliantly remove the current tanks and deliver, install and commission a new system. The trust had found it difficult to find a provider who could deliver a complete turnkey solution.
The Challenge
The hospital recognised that due to the change in the amount of FAME refined within Class A2 Gasoil, that they needed regular visibility of what was happening within their fuel storage tanks. The trust also recognised the opportunity to use a fully renewable and green alternative in HVO. The challenge faced by the trust was that although HVO is fully miscible with Class A2 Gasoil, they were unsure of any potential sludge or contamination at the bottom of their tanks, and the issue it could cause if switching to a new product.

Our Solution
The trust decided to both replace and upgrade their incumbent storage tank with a new system which was both compliant with OFTEC regulations, and could provide them with real-time visibility and additional resilience. The current tanks were of out of their warranty period, and so the decision was made to NDT test the tanks and make an informed decision.
The Results
Results RSM successfully uplifted and removed the existing fuel at Tameside and Glossop NHS Hospital. The existing pipework and tanks were cleaned by way of man-entry tank cleaning; a temporary fuel solution was delivered whilst the cleaning and testing takes place.
