Beatson Clark fuel tank removal

About Beaston Clark

Beatson Clark has been designing and manufacturing glass bottles and jars for 270 years, and they’re still leading the way when it comes to quality, flexibility and innovation. They have a wide range of general sale glass containers for the food, pharmaceutical and beverage markets, many available from stock.

They also have their own in-house design team offering a complete service for bespoke glass packaging, from initial concept to manufacture and decoration; one of the many reasons why they are trusted by some of the biggest global retailers.

Beatson Clark acted swiftly and decommissioned the entire system. Removing all contamination and water from the bund. The strategy was to replace the existing system, which was over 30 years old, with a new fully contained double skinned set of bunded tanks.

The Challenge

Beaton Clark had two 200,000 litre fuel storage tanks, and a 20,000 litre fuel storage tank, all within one tank farm bund. The bund had failed but in sections was still holding a combination of fuel which has escaped form the failed tanks and pipes, and water. The risk of lateral migration and causing a significant environmental issue was clear.

Our Solution

RSM engaged with Beatson Clark and proposed the fabrication, install and commissioning of two new 70,000 litre fuel storage tanks. The new system is fully bunded and is sat in the same position and utilises the existing area. Both 200,000 litre tanks were cleaned, cut and removed from site safely and in line with the most recent Environment Agency guidelines. RSM delivered and managed this process in its entirety.

Tameside and Glossop NHS

Like most NHS customers that RSM support, the trust wanted a comprehensive service provider to empty, clean and then test their current system; but to then also (if needed) be able to compliantly remove the current tanks and deliver, install and commission a new system. The trust had found it difficult to find a provider who could deliver a complete turnkey solution.
